Do you ever ask yourself these questions?
- Have I got what it takes?
- Why can't I get what I want?
- What is it about me that sees me starting, getting overwhelmed and then giving up?
- Why don't I have any confidence in myself?
- Why do I feel envious of others when I know I'm just as good?
- How can I feel more successful?
I'm Barbara Grace, and if you said 'yep - that's me' to any of the questions above, then I know you.
As a younger person I was soooo shy I couldn't speak up for myself.
When I did I was either so impassioned or frustrated that friends thought I'd lost it - my words and actions seemed so different to the quiet 'booky' person I was known as.
Inside was a vibrant person waiting to break free from all the constraints I'd placed around myself.
It took a few decades, and many many mistakes where I pushed the 'this is who I am' button a little too far.
But hey, sometimes that's the only way to know where a good safe place is.
That's how it was for me.
Today though, my 'inner mini-me' and my 'outer maxi-me' are comfortable together.
How did this happen?
I found an amazing way to step into the person I knew I could be, and leave the old shy frustrated me behind.
More about that later.
But as a result of these changes, I started the School of Modern Psychology to help people like you (who feel the way I once did) EMERGE from beneath their own shadow with the COURAGE to do what they were put on this earth for.
I want to show you that you can emerge with courage too.
I'm CONFIDENT I can help you because not only have I been where you are, I've made the changes by knowing (and applying) 8 key skills that underpin all human behavior.
You can do this too. Not with traditional programs that set you up with excitement that fades once you finish the program, but with real tools and solid outcomes that will prove to you that you were right: 'You can do this!'
My work features in online publications such as lifehack.org, Medium.com, podcasts, newspapers and magazines.
I've worked with hundreds of people, sharing ways to improve their outcomes, their day-to-day performance and their mindset.
While the School of Modern Psychology began with a passion for compassion - to help people reach their potential, its genesis was born out of working with leaders and managers of medium-to-large organisations. I'd be working on strategy with a leadership team, and while everyone's heads were engaged all was good. However, once I dug in a little further - the mindset behind actually doing the strategies and tactics didn't connect. I spent more time working on 'personal change' than strategic direction. And it was from this place that I saw no matter who a person was and the role he or she did - personal doubt conflicted with aspirations.
Now you may have picked up a gap here.
How does someone go from being 'full of doubt' to working strategically with companies?
Lots of attempts, lots of 'try again' moments, lots of burying my head wondering what I was doing, lots of soul searching, lots of 'I wanna give up' times.
But truly ... I knew that I would only fail if I gave up.
If I never gave up, I wouldn't fail.
And so with this mindset I studied human psychology so that the process of change could be made more meaningful in people's lives.
It was here I had the first of many 'aha' moments that transformed the work I do into the life-changing force it is today. My work has meaning. And I want that for you too.
Because having meaning in your life is everything.
I invite you to take the first step.
To take the quiz and find out if your thinking is hindering or helping you. It all starts with how you think: about yourself, your environment, the identity you have, about problems and about risk.
Take a moment and start now. I know you'll be glad you did.
You've got this! Barbara Grace
